A woman I know always says that, “God is talking to her.” The way she explains it is like a two-way conversation between her and God. Can this be true?

nswer:

I had a very wise pastor once tell me that 95% of all the talking God does with us is through the Scripture, His Holy Word. I believe that…because the scriptures were God’s inspired Word through the Holy Spirit and there is instructions for just about everything we do, including how we live our lives and the promises we can count on no matter what else is happening.

That is why anytime someone tells you something that “God said to them” it should always line up according to scripture. If it does not, we must discard it. There are people that have a very open line of communication with God, and I believe He does speak to us daily, again a lot of it being when we get in His Word and read and He illuminates it for us. He is God and can speak to us many other ways, including dream, visions, prophecies, word of wisdom or knowledge, etc. Joel 2:28  And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

I do sometimes question people that seem to always say “God told me this or that” and then a few days later they say something completely different as if God somehow changed His mind. These people are putting their own spin on things and not to be trusted. I am not saying your friend is like this, I am just saying there are a lot of people like this. Not bad people, just spiritually very immature.

Here is what I do know, if what your friend tells you always gets you down and makes you distrust others and causes doubt or fear, then it is probably not God speaking but just your friend.

1 Corinthians 14:3  But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

1 John 4:18  There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

I do know this, you can go right to the source. If in doubt of what your firend says, go to the One whom she claims told her. If it truly is of God when you pray He will give you peace, even if there is a storm.

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
