Having been baptised newly in the Holy Spirit, have started speaking in tongues but its like the barest of “baby talk” will I ever progress further and how do I do so. Can the speaking of tongues die out in a person without constant use?

Answer:

Do not worry about this at all…continue to pray daily and just ask God to continue to increase your prayer language.

However, do not think it bad if you do not get a full and fluent language all at once. Scripture tells us this…

Romans 8:15-16 For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Abba is actually the equivalent of us saying “pappa”! When my daughter was born and began to speak and she started saying “pappa” or “da-da” it was the sweetest thing I could have heard. I didn’t care if she spoke another word and long as she held out her hands and said “pappa”.

Even though you aren’t saying a lot, maybe you are saying “Pappa, you are the BEST” in your prayer language and that is what God wants to hear. We are God’s children, so sometimes even baby talk in the Spirit is the most pleasing thing God could ever hear from us 🙂

Ps – I went for years without praying in the Spirit when I was in my early adult life…I had stayed from God and didn’t think I was worthy of even praying this way anymore. However, when I recommitted my life I immediately began to pray this way again…and I now realize it was a lie of the devil to get me to stop praying this way. If I would have, I might have come back to a close relationship with God much sooner. Even when we are unfaithful, God is still faithful… Romans 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance (recall).
