I need to know what the Bible says about cremation and where to find scripture regarding this issue.

Answer:
It does not specifically address this in the Bible, however we have verses like…Genesis 18:27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:

Obviously, when our dead physical bodies decay they literally go back to dust or ashes, so whether buried in the ground or cremated our physical bodies will someday be broken down.

Christians have long help the tradition that burial is preferential to cremation because of verse like…1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

It was often the case in past generations that many atheists or unbelievers were more likely to choose cremation since they did not adhere to this verse.

However, to limit God’s power to only being able to resurrect those buried is ludicrous. What about those lost at sea, or bodies completely decayed over thousands of years in the ground, or destroyed at Hiroshima in the nuclear blast, or even never recovered after 9/11.

The issues is what you believed (and whether you had accepted Jesus Christ as Savior) at the time of your death more importantly than what happens to the physical body after death. The Believer’s soul and spirit are instantaneously with Christ in Heaven and our bodies will one day be resurrected as well, whether they are dust or ashes.

Good question. Did this help?
