Angel Scriptures
Believers do not become angels at death but rather “like” angels.
Matthew 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
Hebrews 12:22-23 But you are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, who are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect.
What Are Angels?
From angelos (Greek) meaning messenger. The matching Hebrew word mal’ak has the same meaning.
The term “angels” usually describes the whole range of spirits whom God has created, including both good and evil angels, and special categories such as cherubim, seraphim, and the archangel.
How did Angels Originate?
God created them and they have not existed for all time as God has.
Nehemiah 9:6 You, even you, are LORD alone; you have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and you preserve them all; and the host of heaven worships you.
Psalms 148:2,5 Praise him, all his angels: praise him, all his hosts…Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.
Colossians 1:16-17 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things are held together.
They were probably created when the Heavens were created. They were probably created between the creation of the Heavens and the Earth, for they shouted when the foundations of the earth were laid.
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Job 38:4-7 Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if you have understanding. Who has determined the measures thereof, if you know? or who has stretched the line upon it? On what are its foundations fastened? or who laid its cornerstone; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
It appears all the angels were created at one time and the number of them is great!
Daniel 7:10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
Matthew 26:53 Think you that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
Twelve legions. A legion was a division of the Roman army amounting to more than six thousand men. The number twelve was mentioned, perhaps, in reference to the number of his apostles, and himself. Judas being away, but eleven disciples remained. God could guard him, and each disciple, with a legion of angels; that is, God could easily protect him, if he should pray to him, and if it was his will.
Hebrews 12:22 But you are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels
Do they have bodies and what do they look like?
Angels can only be at one place at one time as they are not omnipresent. They are also not omniscient or omnipotent, these attributes are unique to God. Remember that Lucifer is a created being (a fallen angel) and that Lucifer is not omnipresent, omniscient, or omnipotent either. He is limited to the powers the angels have and the God grants him for this short period of time.
The devil must even admit that the power and things he has is given to him and for a time.
Luke 4:5-6 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
Angels do not have bodies and are invisible to our eye. They can take on a visible form and have bodily characteristics when they are sent from God as messengers, warriors, encouragers, etc as is witnessed in many accounts in the Old and New Testaments.
